ALGOLOGY OUTPATIENT CLINIC
Algology, or the science of pain, is a medical discipline that studies the causes of pain and aims to treat it by identifying its source. Algology, a relatively new field of science worldwide and in our country, was recognised as a subspecialty in Turkey in 2011. Currently, many universities and teaching hospitals in our country offer Algology clinics. Algology primarily focuses on chronic pain management. However, it also provides effective treatments for patients with chronic pain during acute attack periods. Algology specialists are physicians who have specialised in this field, investigating and identifying the possible causes of pain using various diagnostic methods. Once the cause of the pain has been diagnosed, the source of the pain is treated with the most appropriate medication and interventional methods for the patient.
Cancer pain, headaches, facial pain-neuralgia, neck and arm pain, back pain, lower back and leg pain, hip pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, coccyx pain, pain associated with nerve injury, pain associated with vascular occlusion, shingles pain, and pain of unknown origin are treated at our Algology Clinic. The Algology Unit provides outpatient clinic services to ambulatory patients, as well as consultation services for inpatients in various hospital clinics. Pain treatment is approached and coordinated using a multidisciplinary approach. Therefore, where necessary, patient treatments are organised in close collaboration with other disciplines.
The treatment of patients with chronic pain is carried out by us using medication and/or non-pharmacological interventional methods. At our algology clinic, interventional procedures are performed with the aid of ultrasound and/or fluoroscopy equipment. This increases the success rate of the procedure and results in fewer complications. In addition to many pain relief methods, spinal cord stimulators (pain pacemakers) are also successfully implanted in patients at our clinic. This method is mostly used in patients who have undergone neck and back surgery, those with persistent peripheral vascular disease, those with resistant pain after shingles infection, and in other situations.

Our outpatient clinic operates in the C13 Outpatient Clinic-1 section. It is staffed by 2 specialists, 1 doctoral faculty member, and 2 anaesthesiology residency trainees. An average of 50 patients are seen daily.
